
Defending champions France produced a dominant display on day two, outclassing the Czech Republic to take a 24-67 victory in their second game of the tournament, securing themselves a place in Saturday’s semi-finals. Making it two wins from two, the French side were impressive from the off, making a strong statement of intent for the tournament to finish the second day of competition at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff as Pool A leaders.
Germany also booked themselves a place in the semi-finals, defeating a combative Netherlands side 48-54 in the day’s final match. They’ll meet France in tomorrow’s final Pool A match, both nations looking to inflict a first defeat on their rival to progress to the semi-final as pool winners.
Over in Pool B, Denmark scored over 60 tries for the second game in a row, defeating European Championship debutants Israel 43-68 in the day’s opening game. Their high scoring means they top the table at the end of day two on tries scored, edging out host nation Great Britain into second position. The seven-time champions defeated Switzerland 31-47 to maintain their 100% record in the tournament. The teams go head-to-head tomorrow night in a shoot out that will determine who moves forward to the semi-finals as group winner.
