23rd January 2023
Clashes, collisions and historic rivalries; there’s so much to look forward to when the Euros come to Cardiff this year. To make this event as spectacular as it can be, we need a key team of volunteers – known as Smashers – to help support the event in a wide range of roles. From being involved with the sport or media, to spectator services and hospitality, each and every Smasher will play a key role in bringing wheelchair rugby to a huge audience.
Am I the right person?
If you’re friendly and have the confidence to meet and greet new people, you sound like you’ll be a perfect fit. No formal qualifications are required, but good English and lots of enthusiasm is ideal! Knowledge or experience of wheelchair rugby or other sports events is desirable, not essential. In your application, let us know if you have any other skills you think would be useful for the event (e.g. speaking a second language).
We are happy to work around availability, however we are looking for volunteers who are available from the 3 – 7 May. Shifts will likely be either early or late. For those volunteering in the Sport functional area, we require availability from the 1 – 7 May.
What kind of roles are available?
The volunteer roles for this event are within the following areas:
• Accreditation
• Anti-Doping
• Hospitality
• Media
• Spectator Services
• Sport
• Sport Presentation
• Workforce
Expressing an interest in a certain area does not guarantee that you will be allocated a role or a role within the specified area. Once you have filled in this box and submitted it your application will be complete!
Once you have applied and a member of the team has reviewed your application, you will be emailed a form link to input your availability. We will then be in contact to let you know whether your application has been successful.
How do I apply?
Firstly, register for this opportunity and we will then be in contact to let you know whether your application has been successful. To do so, you must first register on the GBWR Volunteer Portal with your email address via this link:
You will then receive an email asking you to confirm your registration. Please follow this link and complete your personal details. Please complete the ‘Please provide a few details about your suitable experience’ box with any relevant details of your experience in the volunteer roles available – or, if you are new to them, why you would like to gain experience in a particular role.
Thanks so much for your interest – this event wouldn’t be a possibility without you!
